Critical Velocity is a mission-based driving game developed by Namco. It was released for the PlayStation 2 on October 13, 2005, for the Japanese market only. Its working title was Rune Chaser in 2004 before being immediately changed to Critical Velocity. Despite the game being made in Japan and released in the Japanese language only, the setting seems to be American-like with left-hand drive cars and foreign characters. There are even English words written on signs and posters, which may imply that the game was originally intended for an English release, although it was never planned for unknown reasons.
