Also known as Porco Rosso, is a 1992 Japanese animated film produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is Miyazaki’s sixth feature-length animated film and is based on his manga The Age of the Flying Boat, which was serialized in Monthly Model Graphix.

The story takes place in Italy during the interwar period under a fascist regime. The protagonist, Porco Rosso, a pig who flies a crimson seaplane, was once an ace pilot in the Italian Air Force when he was still human. Now, he lives in seclusion on a small Adriatic island, working as a bounty hunter specializing in taking down aerial pirates.

One evening, Porco visits the Hotel Adriano, run by his longtime acquaintance Gina, where he encounters an American pilot named Curtis. Curtis, who flies an American-made seaplane, has been hired as a bodyguard by the air pirate syndicate and sees shooting down Porco as an opportunity to make a name for himself.
