A compilation of the three Kidou Senshi Gundam Gaiden games for the Sega Saturn released between 1996 and 1997. This games are unique among Gundam games in and that rather than placing the player in a behind the shoulder third person view, they instead put the player in a first person view from the inside of the Mobile Suit’s cockpit. They also make up the most significant entry in the “gaiden” Gundam games, those not based directly upon characters and events from the animated television series. The series and its heirs, such as Mobile Suit Gundam: Rise from the Ashes, are also known for gameplay that is grittier and more challenging than that of the Gundam games based on existing canon material. One of the primary reasons for this is that the protagonists are not Newtypes, but normal humans and they are forced to use mobile suits such as the RGM-79 GM, rather than the significantly more powerful Gundam.

The story revolves around ace mobile suit tester Yuu Kajima, who tests the latest suits before they are mass-produced. But one day his test goes seriously haywire when he and his teammates are attacked by a mysterious blue mobile suit. Barely escaping from the melee, Yuu finds another surprise waiting for him: the blue machine is actually the Earth Federation’s latest Gundam, and Yuu is to be its next pilot. Now, as he fights with the Gundam suit against Zeon ace Nimbus Schterzen, he must race against time to unravel the truth behind this mysterious machine, as well as the awaiting destiny of its pilot.
