SIDEWINDER is a series of flight shooting games released by Asmik Ace, Inc. Like other flight shooting games, it features real-world fighter jets. However, the official genre classification for the game is flight action. Although it is a flight shooting game, SIDEWINDER leans more towards a hardcore flight simulation style. It features a Western game-like world, which is uncommon for Japanese-made games. The key differences between SIDEWINDER and the Ace Combat series, which is also a “3D flight shooting” game, are outlined below.

In the year 20XX, extensive environmental destruction has caused many countries to become submerged, creating a divided world where nations with economic stability clash with those without. The anti-World Federation faction, “WORF,” allies with countries opposing the World Federation, such as the “Grutstein Republic.” You join the elite team “SW” from the transnational military force “FN” to confront WORF.
