In the PlayStation 2 game, the player assumes the role of a new student who has enrolled at the Stellvia Space Station Foundation. Each day he assigns various commands on what to do such as studying or resting in the same type of gameplay that Tokimeki Memorial has except for weekends since there is no school then. At the weekends he may invite a character on a date. There are various events to be seen in the game and there are 10 multiple endings. The game resembles the aforementioned Tokimeki Memorial game series in many ways (though in Tokimeki Memorial the player only assigns various commands for the coming week and not for each day).

The year 2356 rolls around and the second storm is on schedule. Enter space cadet Katase Shima who travels to the Stellvia space station for her studies. Although Katase and her classmates are not properly trained for the “Great Mission” of shielding mother Earth from the Second Wave, they are being prepared for the exploration of space, dubbed the Genesis Mission, that will occur after the storm has passed.

The gameplay in Uchuu no Stellvia consists primarily of interaction sequences with classmates where conversation with canned dialogue is the name of the game. Read the text, listen to the characters, and then choose an action from a number of choices that appear on screen. There’s also training scenarios and even a 3-D mini-game which tests spatial reference ability for up ‘n coming pilots in the Stellvia universe. Bandai commissioned a good amount of new artwork and animation for the game which is a goodly treat for fans of the series.
